Xeronema callistemon (NZ Native)
A small native New Zealand flowering plant. This fine flowering specimen ranks as one of our best horticultural subjects. Mature plants have green flax-like leaves up to 1m long and flower between September and December. In its natural habitat it grows on rhyolite sea cliffs and rocky outcrops but sometimes in the island's forest. The stunning red flowers tipped with orange pollen resemble a giant bottle brush or toothbrush. Frost tender.
