Prumnopitys ferruginea (NZ Native)
Miro is native New Zealand and grows to form a round headed forest tree. It's very similar to Matai, Naturally occuring in lowland forests. Miro seed is very slow to germinate even after long periods of cold stratification germination may take 2-3 years. It has bright right red succulent fruit eaten by birds and valuable strong, dense and straight-grained timber. Attractive green foliage and the bark is grey/brown and falls off in thick flakes. It can be trimmed into a hedge.
