Height - 6m
An attractive coastal tree native to New Zealand with large leathery, dark green leaves. This small tree produces tiny flowers followed by large orange-red to black berries which makes it stand out in the native bush from May to June. This fruit is loved by woodpigeon and kaka. Polished seeds were strung together by Maori as beads on necklaces. They make a satisfying 'rattle' rather like 'worry-beads' on a rosary. Frost tender.
